Altadena is a fairly large, unincorporated territory in the “Verdugos” region of Los Angeles County. It is surrounded by Pasadena in the east, south, and west, and it abuts the western San Gabriel Mountains in the north. This geography renders Altadena somewhat secluded, but in a good way: the city's natural beauty and tucked-away feel cannot erase its convenient proximity to major commercial and cultural destinations.

Residents of Altadena live within striking distance of the vibrant, pedestrian-friendly culture of Pasadena, the mega-mall-type shopping centers of Glendale, and a few more miles to the south, the up-and-coming bar scene/night life of Downtown Los Angeles. The 210 freeway serves as Altadena's primary link to the rest of Los Angeles County; even though Downtown LA's giant freeway convergence is only ten or so miles away, would-be cross-county commuters should note that it can take a while to get in and out of that hub.
